How to read a long-term aluminum anode test report

Start with the test purpose, standards, sample, duration and reported results to understand what an aluminum-anode report can support.

Start with the test purpose and standard

The report records electrochemical performance testing of aluminum anodes in natural seawater at ambient temperature and cites DNV-RP-B401 and ASTM D1141. Confirm the medium, temperature, method and applicable standard before interpreting the result.

Review the sample, batch and duration

The report records sample identification, batch, sample area, reference electrode and a 12-month constant-current test period, together with the condition and weight change before and after testing. The sample and batch boundary limits how far the result can be applied.

Read efficiency together with the conditions

The report records an average efficiency of 90.85% for the tested sample and compares it with the DNV requirement. That result belongs to the reported sample, batch and test conditions; it is not a uniform performance guarantee for every aluminum anode product.

Key points

  • The report has a defined test method and sample boundary
  • DNV-RP-B401 and ASTM D1141 are identified in the report
  • One batch result does not replace current project confirmation
